Vivian Southard - In Memoriam

Vivian enjoyed working at our farm. She liked the   interaction with the customers.

"I love the people that come buy the vegetables. It's just a friendly place," she said.

Vivian was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, but lived on Cape Cod for many years. She joined Cape Abilities in 1984.

 At the farm she helped customers get vegetables and flowers.

"I keep an eye on almost everything so nothing goes out without paying for it," she would say with a laugh

When the CBS Evening News profiled the farm in 2008, Vivian was one of the team members they interviewed.

Her favorite plant was the tomatoes.

"I love the tomatoes," she said. "I like them better than the store ones because they're fresh grown. I love them...I could eat a tomato anytime" 

Chris Gately - In Memoriam

Chris joined Cape Abilities in 2000.  He worked in our Hyannis work center at a variety of jobs and at our farm where he helped sell and bag  vegetables and flowers.

In his spare time, Chris liked to be with his family. He was also a shopper, going to the Cape Cod Mall and to yard sales. He insisted he was a picky shopper, looking for value among the myriad  items on sale.

What did he like to buy?

 “I don’t always know until I get there,” was his reply.
