My husband and I were on vacation in Cape Cod from 5/10/08 to 5/17/08. We read the article about the Cape Abilities Farm in the Cape Cod Times-Saturday,5/10/08 edition. We had the pleasure of visiting the farm while on a drive along Route 6A. A tour was being given at the time and we asked if we could join in to hear about how the vegetable and flowering plants are being grown from inception to picking through hydroponics and bags of soil. We were amazed at the number of plants able to be grown and how simple the process is once it is developed in the greenhouses. All of the workers were helpful while we tried to select a planter to bring back to Pennsylvania with us. My husband and I have worked in the human services area-specifically with people who have developmental disabilities-since the 1970's in Pennsylvania. Talking with the director, Jim Knieriem, gave us information on how progressive and responsible the "system" is on the Cape to meet the needs of individuals with special needs. We thank Mr. Knieriem for his time and passionate caring for a program giving consumers an income and a product to be proud of.
